14 Dec 2021 — The LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA Collaboration has submitted a paper to the arXiv presenting new results from a series of tests of general relativity, Einstein’s theory of gravity. These tests were carried out using the latest gravitational-wave events compiled in our new catalog, GWTC-3. This paper searches for evidence of deviations from general relativity using various physical signatures encoded in the gravitational waveforms of binary black hole mergers. The results represent the Collaboration’s most comprehensive tests of general relativity to date. Within the statistical uncertainties of the analyses, the predictions of general relativity are found to be completely consistent with the detected events. The paper is available on arXiv.org and a Science Summary is available here.
